The morning started with a presentation by the Management of the Gorongosa National Park about the history and plans they have to restore this once world-famous park to its former glory.
Today was the start of the first visit of the outreach with local game rangers. The meeting was between the members of the GRAA (Game Rangers Association of Africa) and the nine senior game rangers who are responsible for law enforcement and anti-poaching. Experiences and ideas were exchanged in an informal meeting. Today 20 rangers enthusiastically signed up with the GRAA and another 100 is expected to sign up from Gorongosa alone. The membership will be instrumental for further support and corporation between National Parks in Africa.
A meeting was also held between the Southern Africa Wildlife College and past students, some travelling vast distances to meet up with the delegation. The meeting surpassed all expectations as all of them have been promoted since graduating from the college. Theresa Sowrey, Executive manger of Training of the SAWC said, “Today has been a dream come true meeting them in their work place.”
The afternoon was time for the team to explore Gorongosa on a game drive and enjoy the spectacular scenery and game.
A big thank you to Toyota South Africa for making this outreach possible!
